The One Where I Got Serious About My Mental Health

The One Where I Got Serious About My Mental Health

Abominable Bell Blog's avatarAbominable Bell Blog

What is this life? My life is a twister and I’m an untethered trampoline, gliding haphazardly over your house flapping in the storm while you catch up on your socials. You would only know I was up there if you looked out of your window. Thing is nobody is looking. How’d you think the aliens have got away with it for so long?
I’ve never been this unstable. Even through serotonin syndrome, and numerous crises. I know it’s serious because I am strangely calm. Calm isn’t maybe the best word. Resigned maybe fits more adequately. The whole of my time apart from sleep is filled completely by distractions from the minute I get up until the time to sleep. These things aren’t helping but still I continue to complete these tasks.
Usually my problems escalate when things become too chaotic in my head. Like there is too much information to…

Pulling Out of the Fast Lane

THEN and NOW: Chapter 18, Rose Goes Homebound

I had always thought that overprotective mothers had issues. That assumption bit me back. I should have known better. But it is so much easier to judge than to understand.

I did not want to take Rose’s reins back. I had restarted my own life. The fear had abated. We were happy. We were all busy. We were ‘bad busy.’

I had not coined the term yet, but you know what that means. Skiing vs. swimming. Flying vs. walking. It means that we were moving so fast that we were missing things.

Status epilepticus is not something that can be missed. Rose’s seizures rarely stopped on their own when she was young. Her brain fired away until it was stopped by emergency medications.

When I was weighing the choice of school or homebound, I kept coming back to a seizure we missed…

Quote of the Day

Don't Lose Hope's avatarDon't Lose Hope

“Treat yourself well, darling. We all have days when we feel less than we are.” S. C. Lourie

If you’re having “one of those days” kick off your shoes and be nice to yourself. Don’t believe all the negative thoughts. Don’t take that stuff personally.

Today is a day to be kind to yourself.

To show yourself self-compassion.

Chaotic Cancer: A Family Member’s View: Tears And Waiting

Jo's avatarMe and My Mental Health Matters

This is a personal view as a family member of someone with cancer. Please be aware that some of the content may be triggering. Please take care 💚

It’s been a while since I wrote about cancer. It’s not that it’s not been at the forefront of my mind. I think when it’s part of your family it does stay there pushing its way to your thoughts. But I just haven’t had anything of any real worth to say. Or anything to share. Lately though my thoughts are busy.

We currently are waiting in results from my mum’s latest CT scan. We have appointments booked with the two hospitals involved in her care in the next couple of weeks. This will be to discuss the next steps. We know it won’t go away. We know the prognosis isn’t good. But we will find out how bad it is at the…

Those left behind

A few days ago a friend of mine remarked on how we always tend to remember the soldiers who lost their lives in the wars for our country.

Then he said, what about his wife, parents, children and the effects it must of had on then?

In the future while we’re remembering the dead let us not forget the families and friends a soldier leaves behind every time he is away from home.

From Celtic roots, our family were grown,

back in the lands of Wales; herewith, addressing to atone.

Land of the singers, bards, poets, Celtic knots,

they were forbidden, then expelled, have we forgot?

Pagans back then, were they,

but misrepresented in history today.

As witches and abhorrence, burned at the stake

because they wanted to be free of controlling government states.

Times do, turn like a spiral,

what legends were lost in those times in memorial?

Writers of history, covered up the true facts

because they wanted our Celts, to pay their poll tax.

Understanding of these ancient myths,

seeking to discover, the fragments of forgotten bits.

Beautiful people, back from ancient times,

more indigenous cultures, are secreted in rhymes!

No, you can’t turn back the hands of time,

although if by chance, you open your eyes,

You may be shocked, saddened and surprised.
