It’s Worth Hanging On!

Don't Lose Hope's avatarDon't Lose Hope

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

This quote by the tennis player Arthur Ashe appears frequently on social media. It’s the kind of quote you might expect to see there.

It’s the kind of quote I’ve posted myself when life has been happy, or at least humdrum.

It’s the kind of quote that can give you a lift, and inspire you to try, and to go for your dreams.

But it’s not the right quote if you’re curled up in a ball, and you’re dealing with a trauma, and you think you’re going to die.

No! That’s not the kind of quote that you want to hear right now.

Then, one day you decide that your life must go on.

You are made of stronger stuff.

You are going to survive.

Yes, the pain’s unbearable, and you don’t know what to do. Yes…

Rites of Passage

vhealing's avatarHey Momma

RITES OF PASSAGE ‘Help’ she shrieked. ‘I’m still alive, don’t bury me here, I haven’t died’ The footsteps faded, no-one heard her screams, as she realised then: ‘This is what death means’ Jumping into the abyss of her doubts, and the petty things, she’d stress about. It felt scary, in the bottomless gorge, a turning point, that had to be explored. As the darkness dissolved, shining to light, the dawn of the day, brought new insights. She’d been running away from the fact, living for the ‘date’ had a greater impact. Knowing each day is numbered, was her clue, living life differently, was what she should do. Something ‘primal’ called to her and said” ‘Don’t be sad, there are runes to be read’ Drawing on the strength, of the ‘Uruz’ sign, invoked an unveiling of her heroine inside. A new initiation, with fresh rites of passage. There! a profound rebirth…

What Is the FDA Thinking?

Phylis Feiner Johnson's avatarEpilepsy Talk

Getting the FDA to retract a decision is like getting the toothpaste back into the tube, once it’s been squeezed out.

Take the current all-star Alzheimer’s drug aducanumab. It’s not a proven but it IS approved. To the hefty price tag of $56,000 a year!

If the drug was prescribed to just one-third of eligible patients, it wouldcost Medicare $112 billiona year.

But that same society won’t pay for a caregiver who might actually ease the burden on families who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s.

The FDA does not and cannot guarantee that drugs that come to the U.S. market actually help Americans live longer or better lives (beyond what the drugs themselves can achieve).

At the same time, the FDA insists on interfering in the market and sets arbitrary standards for approval.

The combined effect is the worst of all possible worlds: we don’t know if…

Giving our all

Romans 12:1-2

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. 2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.

This video is a beautiful devotional Song sung by Jane Brill, Sue Johnson and Kayte Harding-Chestney all about time and talents and laying them on the alter.

We all have different talents some musical, others working with the elderly or disabled. Some of us have the talent to work with the homeless or down and outs.

It takes allsorts, there are even some people who wish to do these things will say when asked why they do it? There answer ‘Because It’s my Christian duty’ or words to that effect.

On a different note there are times when ‘We’ can feel a little down and in need of some spiritual uplift or guidance. If you are that person as you listen to this song close your eyes and lift a prayer to our heavenly father.

The time … everybody loved my husband but me

elliethecrunch's avatarEllie the Crunch

So, husband is very well loved in our community. We recently moved here but he managed to make tons of friends and they all love him, wives included.

Once we were walking with the family on a Saturday afternoon and this guy on a bike stops next to us, after introducing himself he tells me:”your husband is a treasure”

I immediately mumbled “we should bury it then”

The guy heard me, didn’t comment and left.

Later that day he asked my husband if I was serious. My husband confirmed I was.

Another day I go to the grocery store and ask the guy for a specific fish my husband had asked the manager to keep on the side.

As soon as I told the man my husband name he said:”I know you don’t want to hear this but your husband is a gem” – I replied “questionable” and he laughed…

Listen to Jesus

Proverbs 8 New International Version

Photo by Luis Quintero on Pexels.com

32 “Now then, my children, listen to me;
    blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
    do not disregard it.

34 Blessed are those who listen to me,
    watching daily at my doors,
    waiting at my doorway.
35 For those who find me find life
    and receive favour from the Lord.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
    all who hate me love death.”

Although this passage of scripture indicates that Jesus is talking to children, the passage really refers to us all. We must keep listening because it is only by listening we become wise and are blessed
