The Messenger

Malachi 3:1-5 New International Version – UK (NIVUK)

‘I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,’ says the Lord Almighty.

But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years.

‘So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud labourers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,’ says the Lord Almighty.

The difference between Poverty & Wealth

Proverbs 10:4 New International Version

A Proverb from Solomon

Lazy hands make for poverty,
    but diligent hands bring wealth.

There is a lesson to be learned from this Proverb, especially if we have a family to provide for. We must not be like the lazy person and bring home poor wages.

No! we must do the exact opposite and be that person that is willing to work hard and bring in good wages to support our family.

Stay Awake

Proverbs 20:13 New International Version

13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
    stay awake and you will have food to spare.

or as the NLT puts it:

NLT: “If you love sleep, you will end in poverty. Keep your eyes open, and there will be plenty to eat!”

The book ok Proverbs is one of my favourite books. I don’t know about you but the NLT seems to explain it far clearer to me than the NIV. That is if we like our sleep to much we will end up poor. Therefore we must not fall asleep so that there is plenty food on the table.
