Light of the World

One of my favourite Salvation Army Band pieces is called ‘The Light of the World’ written and composed by Dean Goffin who I believe was Australian. I suppose one of the reasons I like this piece is the main hymn/theme going through it which is O Jesus, thou art standing. You will also hear the chorus Behold me standing at the door come in through the piece and if you listen carefully you will hear the bottom end of the band emphasise the knocking.

Holmun Hunt also painted a picture of Jesus sanding outside a door knocking and I believe this can be seen in St Paul’s Cathedral, London.

O Jesus, thou art standing,
outside the fast closed door,
in lowly patience waiting
to pass the threshold o’er:
shame on us, Christian brothers,
his Name and sign who bear,
O shame, thrice shame upon us,
to keep him standing there!

O Jesus, thou art knocking;
and lo, that hand is scarred,
and thorns thy brow encircle,
and tears thy face have marred:
O love that passeth knowledge,
so patiently to wait!
O sin that hath no equal,
so fast to bar the gate!

O Jesus, thou art pleading
in accents meek and low,
“I died for you, my children,
and will you treat me so?”
O Lord, with shame and sorrow
we open now the door;
dear Saviour, enter, enter,
and leave us never more.

As you listen to this video I would invite you to pray for the people of Afghanistan and the troubles in that country

The Love of Money

Leigh's avatarAll You Need is Jesus

Money….it’s the root of all sorts of evil….

Hmmm….no, not exactly.

But it’s in the Bible, you say. And if it’s in the Bible then it’s true!

Well…not so fast. You skipped a word when reading the verse in 1 Timothy 6:10. It is the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10

We’d all like to have more money. It’s how we survive in this world, right? We need money to buy groceries, to pay rent, to pay, ugh, bills…

When we start obsessing about money is when we have turned that money into a god.

I’m afraid I may have turned it into a god these past several months. I temporarily lost my…

What does it mean to be a LEO?

Leos are strong, courageous and passionate people. Never criticise those born in the Sun of Lion: Try to provide the reasons why you consider their actions and behaviour inappropriate carefully:

A Special kind of care

Early this morning I was contacted by someone that runs a prayer network to do a bible reading and devotion, so here we go.

I eventually came up with the following reading

He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:11 because Our good Shepherd gathers us in his arms and carries us “in his bosom,” a picture of intimacy and closeness and deep care, and he gently leads us.

I can testify to the fact that God does care for us at all times from joy to sadness.

As I write this I am thinking of the troubles in Afghanistan. I pray for Gods hand in that situation

Finally in the video we are reminded that God cares for us in a special way!

9. Do you have genuine respect for yourself and who you…

Celebration of Life

Ok I think it is time i was back blogging, don’t tell me you’ve missed me, I really hope you have.

Let me tell the unfortunate reason for temporarily stopping, though i was putting up the odd backup blog in this period

Nearly three weeks ago we received news that my late fathers cousin had died suddenly, this was a man my mother and father took in when his mother died and he was classed as a brother/Sister to us kids.

Because the death was sudden and he was only 67 we had to wait on the post mortum for cause of death which was natural causes.

Fortunately whilst waiting on post mortum the family were able to arrange most of funeral.

After that funeral at the start of the next week I received a phone call to say that my Stepdad 88 had died (again natural causes), so it was a case of rushing to be at mum’s side for the next few days. My Brother and Sister came up from England on Thursday, though she stayed with mum till Saturday.

The funeral was Friday past.

I always like to think of a funeral being a celebration of that persons life and yes their partner may be grieving for them, which is natural. Another form of celebrating their life is the funeral Tea where you quite often hear some stories about that person. Stories you’ve never heard before.

Broken Hearts

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

There are  of course several other bible verses I could list.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

As we are reminded in this video throughout the pain we suffer we can come to him in prayer and put our Trust in him to heal that broken heart because God loves us and cares for us
