Endoscopy

Medical professionals perform a colonoscopy while monitoring the patient and endoscopic images

An endoscopy is a medical test that lets doctors look inside your body using a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end, called an endoscope. It’s used to investigate symptoms, diagnose conditions, and sometimes even treat problems without surgery.

🩺 What an endoscopy does (in simple terms)

  • A long, thin tube with a light and camera is gently passed into the body through a natural opening (mouth, nose, or bottom)
  • The camera sends live images to a screen so the doctor can see what’s going on inside
  • Tools can also be passed through the tube to take biopsies, stop bleeding, or remove small growths

Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD)

This test inspects your esophagus, stomach, and the first section of intestine (the duodenum) using an endoscope. An upper endoscopy allows the doctor to explore the cause of such symptoms as difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, vomiting up blood, or passing blood in the stool. It can also diagnose irritation, ulcers, and cancers of the lining of the esophagus and stomach. During this type of endoscopy, the doctor can also take biopsy samples of tissue.See more

🔍 What it’s used for

According to the NHS, endoscopy is used to look inside areas such as the oesophagus, stomach, bowel, bladder, womb, lungs, and more. It helps diagnose things like:

  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Stomach pain or indigestion
  • Bleeding
  • Anaemia
  • Suspected cancer

🧪 Common types of endoscopy

Different names are used depending on the part of the body being examined:

  • Gastroscopy / Upper endoscopy (EGD) – through the mouth to look at the oesophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine
  • Colonoscopy – through the bottom to look at the large bowel
  • Bronchoscopy – into the lungs
  • Cystoscopy – into the bladder
  • Hysteroscopy – into the womb

⏱️ How long it takes

Most endoscopies take 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the type.

😌 Does it hurt?

You’re usually given sedation or local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain—maybe just pressure or mild discomfort.

If you want, I can also explain:

  • The difference between endoscopy and colonoscopy
  • What happens before or after the procedure
  • What type you might need based on symptoms

Jeremiah 30 New International Version

Restoration of Israel

30 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you. The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity[a] and restore them to the land I gave their ancestors to possess,’ says the Lord.”

These are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:

And moving to verses 12 – 17

12 “This is what the Lord says:

“‘Your wound is incurable,
    your injury beyond healing.
13 There is no one to plead your cause,
    no remedy for your sore,
    no healing for you.
14 All your allies have forgotten you;
    they care nothing for you.
I have struck you as an enemy would
    and punished you as would the cruel,
because your guilt is so great
    and your sins so many.
15 Why do you cry out over your wound,
    your pain that has no cure?
Because of your great guilt and many sins
    I have done these things to you.

16 “‘But all who devour you will be devoured;
    all your enemies will go into exile.
Those who plunder you will be plundered;
    all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
17 But I will restore you to health
    and heal your wounds,’
declares the Lord,
‘because you are called an outcast,
    Zion for whom no one cares.’

I actually came across this video whilst looking for another one for today and thought it fits in perfectly with verse 17.

New Year’s resolutions

Philippians 3:12-15

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

What can I say about Resolutions, some of us choose to live a healthier lifestyle (cut down/out cigarettes our even alcohol), others choose to diet after the festive period because of the amount of food we have eaten not just on Christmas Day but at our work’s Christmas party and any other parties we attend in this period.

On a personal note I don’t do resolutions basically because a couple of days into it and I literally crash.

As it says in today’s reading It is important hat we forget what was behind us and move forward toward the goal of the call of God.

The tune in this video is called ‘Let there be peace on Earth’

Always There

You’re Always There for Me

When the world comes crashing in
And chaos rules my mind,
I turn my heart to you, Lord,
And pure, sweet peace I find.

You lift me out of trouble
You comfort me in pain;
You nourish, heal and cleanse me,
Like cool, refreshing rain.

In times of joy and bliss,
When things are going right,
You lift me even higher,
And fill me with delight.
You listen to my prayers;
You hear my every plea;
I’m safe because I know
You’re always there for me.
Joanna Fuchs

As the sky breaks into a beautiful sunrise, may God open the windows of heaven to shower you with his blessings.

I pray that happiness be at your door. May it knock early, stay late and leave the gift of God’s peace, love, joy, and good health behind.

Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car. ~ G.K. Chesterton.

Praying for Wisdom

Proverbs 28 New International Version

25 The greedy stir up conflict,
    but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.

26 Those who trust in themselves are fools,
    but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

Out of my bondage is a song of repentance & invitation. In verse two we are reminded that though we may have a feeling of failure and loss we can come to the cross. Verses three and four tell us, Out of unrest and arrogant pride, Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come; Into Thy blessed will to abide, Out of the fear and dread of the tomb, Jesus I come, Jesus I come; Into the joy and light of Thy home, Jesus, I come to Thee.

Just imagine what it would be like to abide with Jesus and to come into the joy and light of Thy home.

1 Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of my sickness into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

2 Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of earth’s sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life’s storms and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

3 Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

4 Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus I come, Jesus I come;
Into the joy and light of Thy home,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

One Life

There isn’t really a lot I can say on this subject really. We all only have one chance at life and it should be taken at full advantage.  How ever we shouldn’t take things like our health, jobs, homes or food etc for granted. Let us remember those who are less fortunate than us as we listen to the video.

Let us make the most of our lives and let us not forget God who gave us life.
